About Us
Mission Statement
Peach State Pride is a grass-roots movement seeking to spark and symbolize Georgia Pride. From Lookout Mountain to Atlanta, Savannah, and every small town in between; Georgia embodies a uniqueness of ever-changing geography, wildlife, and culture that is truly magnificent.
The Simple Life
The simple life, like a ripe Georgia peach, is sweet- and Derek Chitwood knows something about both. The Peach State Pride founder has worked his grandfather’s peach orchard every summer since he was a boy. Born and raised in Canon, Georgia, Chitwood’s upbringing cultivated his love of Southern culture. “We never made much money, but somewhere along the way I developed a strong sensitivity and appreciation for agriculture and nature.” Chitwood says.
Studying History at Georgia College and State University in historic Milledgeville continued to nurture a deep-rooted interest in cultural heritage. In the midst of a community of people from so many different walks of life, it grew even clearer how strongly one’s home influences them- and if one forgets their heritage… something special may be lost.
Chitwood believes most Georgians are proud to be Georgians, whether they’re from the mountains of North Georgia, metro-Atlanta, or the peanut and cotton fields of South Georgia. From that conviction was birthed the need to symbolize the pride within most residents of this state.
So consider taking a stand for where you come from, and join the Peach State Pride movement. It’s a simple way to appreciate the home that has given you so much, and let the rest of the nation take notice!
